Ward Committees

Your Ward Committee is made up of the three local councillors. Its purpose is to identify and address local issues. The committee consults and works with local residents and businesses, agencies and voluntary and community sector organisations. The Ward Committee meets at least once every two months and is open to all members of the public.

The Communities Officer organises and publicises Ward Committee meetings and deals with any issues raised. They can help you with transport to and from the meeting, childcare and information in a range of community languages.

Learning Hub at the Millin Centre

Need a quiet place to study? Stuck on something and need some help? Don't have access to a computer at home for study? Come along to our Learning Hub!

Get away from home and work with a university student tutor. You can get support with:

  • exam revision,
  • homework and assignments,
  • one-to-one tuition,
  • study advice & guidance
  • job application forms,
  • writing CVs and personal statements

When and Where?
Millin Centre, 160 Ellesmere Road, Benwell: Mondays and Wednesdays 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.

Open to children and young people (8-18). All student tutors have been CRB-checked, vetted and trained. The Learning Hub is supervised by a qualified teacher. Active Newcastle

As part of a four year campaign to get more people who live and work in Newcastle doing more exercise more often Active Newcastle offers a wide range of activities. You can take part inregular classes to one off and annual events.

Fenham Association of Residents (FAR)

FAR is a community development project in the heart of Fenham. They operate from a purpose-built accessible community centre on Acanthus Avenue and deliver regular activities and play schemes for children and young people. They also offer a number of adult educational courses, many of which are free of charge to local residents. FAR offers a number of services for older people, including lunch clubs, courses and activities with most of the activities for older people being free of charge.
